The University of Edinburgh
The University of Edinburgh played a vital role in leading Edinburgh to its status as a chief intellectual center during the Age of Enlightenment. It also took part in the glory when the city is named the Athens of the North. The University of Edinburgh is included in the 2019 QS World University Rankings — ranking 18th in the world.
- A total of 20 Nobel laureates are affiliated with the University of Edinburgh. These include winners of Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Peace, Literature and the Memorial Prize in Economic Science.
- Alumni include Charles Darwin, David Hume, Alexander Graham Bell and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, among many others.
