Tom Steyer

Billionaire philanthropist Tom Steyer spent 26 years managing Farallon Capital, a hedge fund firm he founded in 1986. In 2012, Steyer sold his stake and focused on politics and environment. Steyer passionately advocates for clean energy. He established the environmental group NextGen Climate. Steyer, together with his wife, have gifted millions of dollars to alma maters Yale and Stanford for advanced energy research. Starting 2008, Steyer has disbursed millions of dollars to influence presidential elections, state candidate campaigns, and ballot initiatives. He totaled $74 million in contributions and expenditures on the 2014 midterm elections that made him the top political donor during the said period.
